In the mid-1980's we decided to build and open a place where people could leave their cats while they travel and feel comfortable doing it. As I am what is known as a 'cat person', it seemed the logical thing to do. It was decided right from the beginning that it would be for Cats Only, as even though folks will have both dogs and cats in the same household, the kitties are used to THEIR dogs, not strangers.

I named it "Jean's Place" (because that's who I am) and "The Country Cattery Hotel" because I thought that explained it all when I put the listing in the yellow pages. Well, I was more or less correct. :)

As time went by it became obvious that what caught people's eye was the line"For Cats Only" which eventually was about all I used. Others were confused about what a 'cattery' is and still others wanted the room rate for the 'hotel'.

In this age of the Internet, the name was changed to Jean's Cats-Only Kennel - which says it all.

The Cattery is a room that is right on the other side of my dining room and kitchen, so my guests are able to see and hear me at all times.
